Hostile takeovers have an entirely unique character in Russia. Hostile bidders, or raiders, make offers to enterprises, which they reject at their peril. If they do, it is common for a hostile attack to begin.
The bidder attempts to wrest control of the enterprise using counterfeit documents of title. Courts are paid off and share registers are falsified. The tax authorities are bribed to assess irregularities within the enterprise. Some raiders will even resort to physical violence and blackmail. In particularly bad cases, an assault team is dispatched to capture the sought-after enterprise. In 2007 alone, Russian raiders snatched enterprises with a net worth of some 2 billion euros. Who are these raiders? Their membership spans a wide spectrum of Russian society - from petty criminals...

Russia reconsiders co-operation with Nato in Afghanistan - 28 Sept 08

Su-27 Flanker Front Line Fighter Aircraft, Russia
The Su-27 (NATO designation Flanker) is the front line fighter aircraft designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau and manufactured by Irkut Corporation. The export version is the Su-27SK. The aircraft is equipped to operate autonomously in combat over hostile territory, in escort of deep-penetration strike aircraft and in the suppression of enemy airfields. Russian aces "STRIZHI" (MIG-29)
MiG-29 Fulcrum High-Performance Combat Aircraft, Russia
The MiG-27K fighter bomber aircraft is manufactured by RSK MiG and the Irkutsk Aircraft Production Association Joint Stock Company. The MiG-29, -30 and -33 are known by the NATO code name Fulcrum. The MiG-29K is the carrier-based version. There are in the region of 600 MiG-29 variants in service with the Russian Air Force.

Georgia slams Russia

Georgia's foreign ministry has released an official statement bout the steps recently taken by the Russian Defense ministry, including sending of units and special equipment of Railway and Engineering Forces of the Russian Federation to Abkhazia.
The statement says that "Georgia has already repeatedly drawn the attention of the international community to the extremely dangerous nature of the steps recently undertaken by the Russian Federation with blatant violation of international law. In particular, the Russian Federation through military intervention in Abkhazia, Georgia, carries out annexation of this inalienable and internationally recognized part of Georgia".

Russian businessman bought Arsenal football club.
The Russian businessman who's bought a 14.5% stake in Arsenal football club says he's a genuine supporter of the English team. Alisher Usmanov, who acquired the stake through Red and White Holdings, an investment company he co-owns, also said he was a big admirer of gunner's manager Arsene Wenger.
