NATO allies warned Russia on Tuesday that the alliance's cooperation with Moscow would depend on the pullout of troops from Georgia. They insisted Georgia remained on track to join NATO despite Moscow's opposition. The emergency meeting in Brussels highlighted a rift within the 27-nation bloc between former Soviet satellite nations wanting tough action against Russia and western European members warning against antagonizing Moscow. Medvedev attacks Georgia NATO move
Sep 12 - Russia's president is condemning NATO's pledge to extend membership to Georgia as unjust, humiliating and intolerable.
The Russian leader's tirade came as more checkpoints were dismantled in Georgia in line with a French-brokered ceasefire deal although Moscow says it will keep about 7, 600 troops inside the breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Medvedev's comments also come on the heels of a widely-reported interview by the U.S. Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin where she urged the admittance of Georgia to NATO and indicated that the U.S. should be prepared to go to war to assist a NATO-aligned Georgia, if it were invaded by Russia again.

I am deeply disturbed by the latest Russian actions regarding Georgia, and Russia's broader policies towards its neighbors.
Several weeks ago I called on NATO to extend a Membership Action Plan (MAP) to Georgia and Ukraine at the Bucharest Summit. I emphasized that this move would be a litmus test for the success of President Bush's leadership of the trans-Atlantic community. My support for MAP was based on the need to send a positive signal to Tbilisi and Kyiv to encourage them to stay on track with their positive reforms as well as to send a signal of our concern to Moscow about the future security of these countries.
