Russia Military Forum in English

There is a fairly new forum that you might be interested in. It’s called the Russian Military Forum, and it’s in English. It looks like it’s run by Russians. I’m guessing that if you want a lively debate about military issues then you might want to check it out.

Here’s the link: http://russiadefence.englishboard.net/

I regularly beat up Russia for all the problems it has like a crumbling military and a demographic implosion. However, they still have enough nuclear weapons to obliterate America. So one must be careful concerning Russia and NOT underestimate it. Unfortunately, many in America DO underestimate Russia.

I think this forum is trying to show the good side of the Russian military to the English speaking world. Of course both the Russia political and military leaders enjoy sticking their collective thumbs in the eye of America, but if you ignore that how bad can it be? I guess we can find out the rest of the story at this forum.

I should tell you that starting a forum is very difficult. One needs people and posts before people will show interest. But how do you initially get those people? Why not help them out and give them hell at the same time by signing up for this forum. You can do some commenting or post a couple of articles.

  1. Thanks for the press. While I cannot vouch for the members, the staff of RMF are dedicated to an objective look at all issues. It is a Russian Military Forum first, but also a global one as well. The administrator (me) is a veteran of the 2nd Chechen War, KFOR, and higher-educated in UK so knows about both military and societies. This site has no affiliation with the state and is not subject to government censorship. All views are welcome.

  2. Just wanted to add, that a big reason for the forum was to document the change from a “crumbling military” to a totally revamped fighting force. We are at the start of our RMA, or Revolution in Military Affairs. Stay tuned as it is going to be a fine show.

  3. This is what Russian Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Defense Minister Army-General Nikolai Makarov had to say about the Russian military:

Aging weapons, poor maintenance and ‘rank-and-file officers who don’t want to do anything’ mean the Russian military was on the verge of a ‘catastrophic crisis’ and if forced into action would most probably have to rely on the use of strategic nuclear weapons, which seem to be the only ones still fully operational.

  4. Vladimir79,

I would be happy to report that the Russian military is getting their act together. Perhaps acknowledging the problem is the first step in fixing it. However, it looks like Russia has a lot of hard work ahead of it.

  5. No doubt, the establishment is up in arms about the radical reforms taking place. Tank forces reduced by 3 times to keep only modern equipment. Half the officers kicked out to increase pay to Western standard. Western brigade command structures. NATO standard flight hours for pilots by reducing aerocraft inventory. They are even upset that we buy French thermal optics for all new army, navy, airforce equipment. MoD is making radical changes with full support of Putin/Medvedev but many don’t like seeing low numbers. Serdyukov is taking the military into the 21st century with the country kicking and screaming, but it will be done b/c Putin demands it.

  6. This looks cool so far, what’s up people?
