Iran tests missiles for hitting Israel, US bases, first space monkey in July

… . According to our sources, Iran is working at top speed on at least three new operational ballistic surface missiles with longer ranges. They are Shahab-4, for targets at a distance of 3,200-4,000 kilometers; the Sejjil (2,500 kilometers) and the Ashura-Ghadr 110A (3,000 kilometers). Shahab-4 and Ashura/Ghadr 110A are quite capable of hitting central and western Europe. Iran is furthermore developing intercontinental ballistic missiles – Shahab-5 (5,000 kilometers) and Shahab-6 (10,000 kilometers) – which put North America within range.

Sooner Rather Than Later: Iranian Shahab-6 ICBM

According to a pre-release article by Craig Covault, the upcoming 29 January 2007 issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine will reveal that Iran has converted it’s North Korean-cloned Shahab-3 Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile into a satellite launch vehicle. According to a strategic analysis done by GlobalSecurity.Org, Iran conducted a successful test of its large IRIS solid propellant rocket motor in mid-2005. If these assessments are accurate, and there is no reason at this point to dismiss them, then the beast sitting on an Iranian launch pad today may very well be proof of the existence of Iran’s Shahab-6 Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile. The Shahab-6 is a weapon system specifically designed and capable of delivering an Iranian nuclear warhead to virtually anywhere on earth. It is a virtual clone of the North Korean Taepo-Dong 2C/3 ICBM which allegedly failed in a much publicized test in July 2006. [For the complete analysis click "read more" above"]

This technological leap is nothing less than stunning. Just twenty-two months ago, on March 17, 2005, the Director of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, made public a statement for the record to the Senate Armed Service Committee,

“We judge Iran will have the technical capability to develop an ICBM by 2015. It is not clear whether Iran has decided to field such a missile.”

Comment:

So Iran continues to make great progress in the development of various missiles. This almost certainly means that Iran is getting help from several different sources.

I think this means that America is going to be in substantial trouble in the next 10 years, or even sooner. Iran will probably have access to the super EMP technology being developed by North Korea with the assistance of Russian scientists. This technology allows a small nuclear blast to throw off the same EMP as a very large bomb. A couple of these detonating over America would pretty much be the end for 90% of Americans within a year.

Let’s also not forget that Iran has plans to build a missile base in Venezuela.

Rather than the traditional perils of conquest, war, famine and death, the OECD identifies viral pandemics, cyber attacks, financial crises, socio-economic unrest and geomagnetic storms as the five “global shocks” that will have to be endured.

The Philippines and the US have begun 11 days of joint naval exercises amid growing tensions with Beijing over disputed waters in the South China Sea.

US missile destroyers will join much older Philippine warships for the drills off the south-west Philippines.

In a BBC interview, President Benigno Aquino said he was concerned by China’s encroachment into Philippine waters.

Iran unveils missile silos as military exercises open

Iran announced Monday that it has built its first ballistic missile silos, airing video of one of the facilities as it began a new round of military exercises.

The hardened, underground launch sites will allow Iranian commanders to fire missiles more quickly, Iran’s state-run Press TV reported. A military statement carried by the official Islamic Republic News Agency said the silos were capable of launching long-range missiles.

China Plays Nationalism Card?

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai’s recent remarks about other countries meddling in the South China Sea disputes were a clear warning to the United States. Though on the surface the comments were restrained, using the analogy of playing with fire undoubtedly escalates the diplomatic war of words that has been unfolding. 

But even more ominous could be the remarks he made over the sentiments of average Chinese citizens. To quote: ‘…the Chinese public is following very closely whether the United States will adopt a just and objective position on matters like these.’

Risks are growing that incidents at sea involving China could lead to war in Asia, an Australian policy think tank warned on Tuesday.

Concentrated on the South and East China seas, the risk-taking behavior of the Chinese military, resource needs, and greater assertiveness, raised the possibility of armed conflict that could draw in the United States and other powers, the Lowy Institute said in a report.

The drone (pictured above) appears to be small, possibly no more than a dozen feet in length. Since it was spotted far from land in the company of Chinese warships, it’s likely that the flying robot is launched from the helicopter flight deck of a frigate or destroyer — though the exact methods of launch and recovery remain unclear. (U.S. naval drones use catapults or take off vertically.) The UAV’s apparent small size implies a limited range and basic sensors, particularly given China’s problems building robots and advanced military electronics.
