U.S. airpower depends on the ability to overcome surface-to-air missile (SAM) defenses, and one of the key weapons for this role is the AGM-88 High Speed Anti-radiation Missile (HARM), which homes in on radar emissions. (You can see them, under the F/A-18’s wings in the picture, above.) The defenders can either turn off their [...]

The military’s big thinkers plan for future needs by predicting potential security threats
By the Pentagon’s reckoning, the world in 2018 will be a grim place, with a considerable array of tricky national security threats facing the U.S. military. Multinational corporations, employing increasingly thuggish private security forces, begin to undermine the traditional power of nation-states. Countries [...]

Though publicly muted, there is growing concern in capitals across the rest of Asia over Beijing’s burgeoning pre-eminence. “There’s no escaping the fact that, in the past ten years, China’s negotiating power has increased while others have weakened,” says C. Raja Mohan, a leading Indian foreign policy expert and professor at Singapore’s S. Rajaratnam School [...]

AN internal army report has given a more threatening assessment of China’s military expansion than was publicly stated in the defence white paper, warning bluntly that it could “destabilise” the region.
The report, obtained by The Weekend Australian, also makes more hawkish comments about India’s military ambitions than Defence has admitted.
