Public Enemy Number One - Keep Britain Tidy COI 1968
Throughout 1968 this COI was shown on British TV ad nauseam. The guy in the hat/trenchcoat is well-known comedian and actor Roy Hudd. Neither the opening caption nor the canned laughter were present on the original transmissions.
Although looking tame now, given the fashion for espionage thrillers at that time, this little gem was very appropriate and maybe quite effective in achieving its aim. Who can tell?
We kids loved it certainly...
But apologies for the poor quality. No matter how many times I encoded this clip (with various settings) it still came out with all those horrid motion artefacts. Ho hum ;-)

Goldeneye 1995
Theme song to the Bond Movie Goldeneye, sung by Tina Turner. A pretty good Bond movie, and Pierce Brosnan played the part of Bond well, although he is'nt my favourite Bond..

Numbers station - Russian numbers (heard in the UK, 2008)
Heard on a really cheap radio (£3 bought from a street market). Russian numbers in five figure groups - each group immediately repeated. Ends (not on video) 'null null null null null'. Frequency - around 6900 khz (can't be accurate as the analogue tuner is very imprecise).
I believe the Enigma 2000 classification is S6 (Russia), although if anyone can confirm or correct this that would be great.
Sorry for the poor audio/video (mobile phone + cheap radio)

Spy vs Spy: is East-West espionage on the rise?
There are new fears that espionage between East and West is on the increase, despite the end of the Cold War. Former foes continue to accuse one another of spying, with Britain's intelligence service, MI5, recently announcing it needs extra resources to keep an eye on the operations of Russia and China.

It Can't Happen to Me - Part 1 of 3
This is a film commissioned by the British government in 1969, made to inform business leaders about the dangers of industrial espionage. Produced at the height of the Cold War, it certainly shows its age! The scene in which an Eastern European Mata Hari-type spy attempts to seduce a stuffy, pin-striped executive has to be one of the funniest things ever filmed. And I don't think they needed to have worried about the Russians too much - given the amount of smoking in this film, I imagine all the leading characters were probably dead from lung cancer within a couple of years of it being shot. Note the name Peter Watkins on the end credit - the same Watkins who directed 'Culloden' and 'The War Game'? I haven't been able to confirm or disprove this.
If you want to add comments, please...

Russia-UK: building bridges
The Russo-British relationship has been rather tumultuous in recent months, marred accusations of harbouring criminals and espionage. What fuelled these tensions? Which direction will Russian foreign policy take under the new president? To answer these questions, our guest today is the Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Yury Fedotov.

Numbers station - Lincolnshire Poacher?
Lincolnshire Poacher (Enigma 2000 classification E3 - believed to be operated by the UK) just about audible on AM, clashing with an Arabic station? Any confirmation or correction welcome. The distinctive tune can be heard on another video.
Heard on a really cheap radio. Frequency - around 9250 khz (can't be accurate as the analogue tuner is very imprecise).

Georgi Markov, "My Kind of Music"
In this rare 1976 recording, Georgi Markov introduces some of his favourite music. "My Kind of Music", with Paddy Finney, BBC World Service.
В този рядък запис от 1976 година, Георги Марков представя любимата си музика. "My Kind of Music", с Пади Фини от Световните Служи на Би Би Си.
It's precisely 30 years since Georgi Markov's death. Georgi Markov was one of the few open critics of Bulgarian Communism, a writer and a broadcaster, a BBC journalist.
On 7 September 1978, on Waterloo Bridge, just across from Bush House, Georgi Markov's desk at the BBC World Service, he was jabbed in the thigh by a man holding an umbrella. The man apologized and walked away.
Markov later would tell doctors...

QI series E live recording (4)
Stephen Fry, Alan Davies, Vic Reeves, Jo Brand & Clive Anderson are dressed as spies for a special espionage edition of QI. Stephen invites the audience to abuse Alan for the benefit of the video. They do so joyously. Vic then says Alan looks good. Alan considers this debatable at best.
